While Chiropractic care is typically associated with spinal joints it can be effective for other joint conditions as well. When joints move properly, our muscles and ligaments function at an optimal level. This allows for normal functioning without any pain. However, when the joints do not work properly it leads to a lot of problems. Primarily, the muscles and ligaments do not function properly – they tend to either shorten or elongate, depending on the joint problem, causing toxin leaks that irritate local tissues and nerves. Further leading to pain and dysfunction that increases until the underlying issue is resolved.
There are three factors that determine the normal functioning of the joints, they are:
- Mechanical or macro trauma like a car crash or bad fall and micro trauma (repetitive use injury) that can certainly lead to joint damage.
- Chemical discharge. If your diet is inflammatory, you will be more likely to swell easily and be susceptible to more injuries.
- Psychological. This is obvious when people are under stress, it can lead to headaches, back pain, neck pain, stomach pain, etc. Stress affects the hormones and chemicals in the body and can create an environment where healthy joint functions are hard to maintain.
At Maple Chiropractic & Acupuncture Clinic we correct the underlying cause of joint dysfunction so that the body can perform the normal motions that allows for the compensatory soft tissue reactions to heal – making us best suited to deal with joint pain and its dysfunctions.
